April is Earthquake Preparedness Month Wednesday, April 14, 2010 (0 reads)
The recent earthquake activity around the world reminds us all of the need to prepare for emergencies. While no one can accurately predict when an earthquake will occur, the time to prepare for an emergency is before it happens. As with all emergencies – from earthquakes to power outages to fires – the more you prepare and practice now, the better you will be able to cope with whatever emergency does happen.
Get a Kit. Make a Plan. Be Informed. These three steps will help you prepare for any kind of emergency. The Red Cross recommends that you have an emergency kit at home and a smaller kit in your car. Keep a pair of shoes and a flashlight by your bed in case an emergency occurs in the middle of the night. Keep you gas tank ½ full, ensuring that no matter what the situation you will have enough gas to get to your next destination.
To watch a brief online presentation about these and other preparedness tips, simply click on the Be Red Cross Ready banner at the top of our website.
