After the shaking stops:
- Check yourself for injuries first. Call 911 for life threatening injuries. Protect yourself from further injuries by putting on long pants, long sleeved shirts, sturdy close toes shoes, and work gloves.
- Check others for injuries. Give first aid for injuries.
- Insptect your home for damage. Get everyone out if your home is unsafe.
- Turn of the gas ONLY if you smell gas or suspect a leak. Only trained professionals should turn the gas back on.
- Listen to the radio for instructions from local authorities.
- Make sure you know where your emergency kit is incase you must evacuate your home. Your emergency kit should include items like a flashlight, battery operated radio, non-perishable food and water, blankets and a first aid kit.
